Rapid innovation in AI has presented exciting yet uncertain opportunities to support global health efforts. Researchers and practitioners have been trying to chart a path for how AI can play a role in global health, and there is much to be gained from greater collaboration here. Responsible development of AI and ensuring equitable outcomes amidst fast-paced changes and high-stakes needs call for greater alignment of research and practice---while practice ensures grounding in affected communities, research can support reflection and innovation. However, there could be more opportunities for researchers and practitioners to meaningfully connect.
This first workshop of the AIxHealth Research to Impact Collaborative will be aimed at bridging research and practice in concrete and actionable ways to better align research agendas with practical challenges in AI and global health. We will bring together a global group of practitioners in non-profits and healthcare settings and academic and industry researchers in order to:
Learn from each other about responsible development, integration, and governance of AI for global health through three sessions with talks and panels
Nurture concrete research-practice collaborations by creating space for practitioners to pitch global health challenges and start critical discussion on possible roles for AI
Develop a manifesto for how researchers and practitioners can move forward together with greater intentionality in this space, creating the foundation for future events and collaborations
This 1.5 day workshop will take place on December 13th and 14th in Bangalore, India. See below for the agenda and details on invited speakers.
